Our History
GTEC On The Forefront Of The Technological Education
  • 1966

    Fine Instrument Center (FIC) was established in1966 as a part of an effort to improve Korea's industrial development in a joint effort between the Korean government and UNESCO.
  • ~1979

    FIC was merged into the Korean Mechanical and Metallic Engineering Research Center changing its name
    into Korean Mechanical Research Center in 1981, and later Korean Productive and Technological Research
    Center in 1989. The center aimed at the promotion of the industrial human resources and showed 100%
    employment rate of its 10,000 trainees.
  • ~1999

    The old Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology (GTEC), FIC established by the Ministry of Trade,
    Industry and Energy stands in the center of the technological education. In addition, its tips and
    know-hows of those days have passed on to the current educational practices at GTEC.
  • 1999~2015

    • 199903Established Kyonggi Institute of Technology with eight departments and 800 students.
    • 200003Enrollment was increased by 400 students and three new departments wereestablished
      (Computer Application, Quality Management and Clean Manufacturing Technology)
    • 200202Enrollment was increased by 520 students and three new departments were established
      (Industrial Design, e-business)
    • 200308One new department was established (Automotive)
    • 200404Established Kyonggi Institute of Industrial-Academic Cooperation Foundation Corporate
    • 200506Established Lifelong Education Center
    • 200606One new department was established (Child Care and Welfare)
    • 200712Acquired accreditation for major intensive coursework to confer a bachelor's degree to graduates (Electronics and Communication)
    • 200908Established five new departments (Graphic Design, New Recycling Energy, Architectural Design,
      Child English Education and Small Business)
    • 200910Acquired accreditation for major intensive coursework to confer a bachelor's degree to college graduates of the 5 more departments (Mechatronics, Automation and Robot, PrecisionMechanical Engineering, Electrical & Control Engineering, Architecture & Interior, and Industrial management)
    • 201008Abolished the department of Architecture & Design and two new departments were established (Mobile Convergence and Architecture & Interior)
    • 201104Changed the name of the school to Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology (GTEC)
    • 201208Changed the name of departments (Child Care and Welfare → Social Welfare/ Child English
      → Early Childhood English Education)
    • 201308Reorganized the departments and changed their names (Graphic Design → Visual Information Design/ Digital Media Design → Media Design)
    • 201407Reorganized the faculties and changed their names (Automotive and Energy Engineering →
      Electric and Electronic Engineering/ IT and Business Administration → Convergence Technology engineering/ Design and Culture → Humanities, social Science & Design)
    • 2015072015reorganizing the departments and changed their names (Air Conditioning Engineering + Renewable Energy → Energy Mechanical Engineering/ e-business + Small and Medium Business Management → Business Administration)
  • 2016 ~2020
